Not necessarily. Once you call to set up an appointment, we will verify your insurance benefits and let you know if you need a referral from your doctor. If needed, I will be able to recommend a doctor or communicate with your doctor directly to see if we can get a referral as quickly as possible. This varies from what each doctor prefers and the type of insurance you have.
I recommend having clothes that are accessible and comfortable. For example, for a knee injury wear either pants that can be rolled up or shorts so that your knee can be exposed. Most sessions will involve some activity, so make sure you are comfortable moving in the clothes/shoes you wear. If using an assistive device (cane, crutches, brace, etc), please bring that with you. Also, please bring any doctor’s paperwork or instructions.
Appointments are every 45 minutes. Care will be 1-on-1, with a Doctor of Physical Therapy. No aides or techs are used to prescribe/supervise exercises. The duration of the care will depend on the severity of the injury or impairment, but will typically last 3 to 8 weeks. Number of sessions per week varies and will be outlined at the initial evaluation. We can work together to customize your treatment plan if there are financial or time restrictions.
The initial evaluation cost is higher than the future recurring visits and will vary based on your insurance. The cost of your care will vary depending on your insurance plan. We can give you an estimate once we have verified your benefits. We will also let you know if you have met your deductible or not, and if you will need to pay a copayment at the time of your visit. Cash pay rates are $140 for an evaluation, and $90 for a treatment session. See detailed explanation through this video- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBoKgO2PiUI
You should start physical therapy as soon as possible after an injury and before/after surgery. You should also consider physical therapy if you have pain or a condition that affects your mobility. If you have any questions about your eligibility (with insurance), or timing around competitions for athletics, please give us a call.
